      RFD/Ray Stevens Theater tear down has begun A Branson Icon is being torn down. On Monday at the West end of the majestic strip a theater that resided for 34 years, is seeing it's last days. The Original Ray Stevens theaters front entry way is being dismantled and re purposed for something better. Although we do have two vacant theater lots already that went to demo. The Jim Stafford theater, the Carvael (Where the Beatles tribute played) and a Hotel. This will probably not be vacant for long.       Ray Stevens built the theater and hosted 3 great seasons, until it was sold. The camel colored carpets, and spacious landscape inside the theater was bar none. No other theater in town could brag of such picturesque amenities.       After Ray moved out, Country tonite move in for Ten seasons from what I understand.                                                          12/09/25 UPDATED! The Branson Demo list: Hotels, Attractions and theaters that are no more, and what came after! Over the years a lot has come and gone here in Branson. I guess what motivated me to write this, were some of the crazy comments on the book. People have been saying since 2000 that Branson was going down, and that the shows were dying, a hell in a hand basket kind of mentality. Well 24 years late Branson is still going strong and enjoying record highs in attendance. Whether it's a show or a shopping mall, or an attraction, something always replaces the dearly departed theater, or attraction. It's a place for families first and foremost and that's the real attraction. Here's a list from the Branson Time vault, that will amaze you. The Ray Stevens, RFD theater stood for 34 years...

 Hard Candy: Working for Marie Osmond at Roy Clark Celebrtiy theater That first year at Roy’s was crazy, I got to meet a ton of stars I’d only been able to see on television, and some influenced me to play the guitar. And pursue understanding music. One star I did some side work for, was Marie Osmond, and it was a very odd request in deed. She wanted me to go to the grocery store and buy candy and bring it back and have her throw it out to the audience. The only problem was she wanted hard candy. I go to the store and bring back $30 in Candy that she gave me cash to buy, and tipped me with the change.       Upon first meeting her, she was as gorgeous as they had always said. But she definitely was stand offish. She had been singing for a few years on the Osmond show and her brothers would soon be playing down the street. Where they would later put an ice rink in as well. So I went backstage to grab some money to make the trip, and got to visit with her...

  1990's Eddie Rabbit Story on Classic Branson Facebook  Eddie Rabbitt played the theater many times, and I'd seen him on TV once or twice, and I love his music. I got the privilege to run spotlight with him, with a crazy spotlight/lighting guy named Steve. He wore Hawaiian shirts all day long, and was known to sip a drink or two in the spotlight booth. I remember the lightning sounds and thunder before I love a rainy night, and I noticed how big Eddie was from the lighting booth. The guy must of been lifting weights at the time. He was what we usually received in at the theater, as his music was a little more poppy. But he put on one heck of a show, and was nice and as personable as Roy.
