The Day the Roller Coaster Died Whenever an iconic entity dies in Branson, a part of it dies with the local folk. And it was no different the day the wooden- rustic roller coaster came down at Celebration City.  Hedged on several sides by rope and wire, they pulled and they pulled until the roller coaster fell. The folks who filmed the event waited for nearly a day to get the shot of the coaster coming down. Celebration City which is owned by Silver Dollar city, decided it was time to demo. And demo they did. Some of the wood was donated to the church that resides inside the park of Celebration City . The Church Woodland Hills family church used the wood to make different items. Battle of the Branson Christmas Lights  No not battle of the Planets. Which was a program in the 70's with Kiap,Jason, Mark and Princess. Sorry Tiny I just couldn't give you a mention. Its Battle of the Branson Christmas lights.      There was a change earlier this year. The Christmas lights were moving to another Location and the company that was putting them on in the industrial park, didn't want to hose them anymore. Another company picked up the Gauntlet, and has put on a very nice chow over off of 248.      Well last night my wife and family  were driving around and started seeing the signs. Turn here, keep going strait, take a left. Several signs for a competing show were at the casey's on 248.      Apparently, someone has come in and leased or bought the old show, and we now have two competing Christmas light shows in almost the same location. Down by the Coal plant, and the Railroad tracks near sight and sound boasts ...

       I almost think you could get famous anywhere. And I also know that in the 90's Branson was quite a place. And maybe a place to get famous. Not Beatles famous,but a place where you could get your musical trade out very fast. There were tons of places you could play. Roy's Loft, Guitars and Cadillacs,Pump boys & Dinets theater would let you come and sing. The club over at Lodge of the Ozarks, and many many more. I cleaned out a closet one time, that had tons and tons of demo tapes. Of people just trying to get a shot in a show here. Some good, some not so good. And the great ones had already been taken out. So they must have gone somewhere. You could be an opening act, and sing for a show. That's what Allen Edwards did. You could sing karioke at Wendy's or the Hillbilly Inn. I love living in Branson, that is no joke. But sometimes things can go the wrong way. A star is having a bad day, and you are at the wrong place at the wrong time. In the 90's I met a lot of starts, as Branson was a place to make money. And Mucho of it! So they flocked here like Seagulls. And either they were heavily populated in droves here, or I was just a lucky guy. 1) Glenn Campbell -I am a hug fan. Wichita Lineman is an awesome album, and Glenn is just a genius. I got to meet him many times, and watch him play on a regular basis at the Roy Clark Celebrity theater. I'm really sorry to hear about his disease, but I'm impresed with the documentary they made about it, and about how Brave he is in his fight. He's just a great great musician. 2) Merle Hagard -I was working at a convenience store one time, and Merle came in and bought diapers. Thats right,and a lot of them. We've always feared the winter. Thats just all there is to it. And I don't know why. When I moved here 20 years ago, the winter just wasn't on the agenda. We developed our business model quickly. Work 8-9 months out of the year, and hoped everything else would take care of itself. One year I had to climb up on my mobil home, just to get the snow cleared from my heater, so I could get the propane going through the tube to light my furnace.      As I was up there, I could see for miles and miles all over Branson, as the snow created nice hard edges and made everything so perty. But I still wanted to work. But Branson didn't see it that way. Over time (For a short time) Branson did got to a 10-11 month economy. Where there were folks coming in for Hot winter fun, and town would stay busy. But there is no feeling like having a Bus tour come in and the roads soon get icey. "My Family and I out in front of Pasgettis" Its not always a sad day in Branson, when a Restaurant dies. It could be that the venue is turning into something else. A fusion if you will, no pun intended.      Pasta house turned into Florentinas. La Chinita Poblano turned into Pasgheties, and the Plantation morphed into CiCi's Pizza. And if anything is creating a more competitive landscape in Branson, it's having better Restaurants. As everyone has to eat, there will always be more and better Food places here. And that's what we surely need. New inventive tasty food, to entice people to enjoy their stay and enjoy the food. The city (SDC) can't be the only reason for people to come here, which was about the only draw before the boom hit.      For the employees, they always find new places to lant.       When a show is on its last legs , there is a lot of hooping and hollering. Grunting and groaning, and falling around on the ground. It gurgles a little and then gives up the Ghost.      If a show dies in Branson it is a sad day. As there are always options for reincarnation in some respect. In the chain of theaters a show can survive at, there is always somewhere for a show to go. I've seen shows at several different theaters all in the same year.      In the old days, the last stop was always the Branson mall. (Which is closed right now, for renovations). At the mall, they could break shows down into 15 minute intervals, and you'd get a chance to get up onstage, usually without your band, and all the gear. It was a sad Day for the internet when google, created the Penguin algorithm to combat black hat SEO. I think in the long run, this will help people view good superior, non spam content. And that's what we need, better content, that makes us think. Instead of feeling sold too, or manipulated or spammed. 15 Restaurants that Kicked the Bucket while Raking in the dough!      Branson is a Restaurant town. We have tons of incredible eateries over the last 20 years.
