Why the Branson theater show is dying.
It seems to be inevitable event. Something you love goes away so something new can come. I wish that were the case here, and the shows have been around all this time and we celebrated them for so many years here in Branson. But I feel the day will come when shows are coveted here in this beautiful area anymore. I think our staple shows that have been around and endured the test of time will always be here. Like the Presley’s, bald numbers, and some of the other shows on the majestic strip. But the room for the new shows, that were celebrated at the Branson mall in different locations, are no longer able to have that format. You can no longer go in the Branson Mall and see a Las Vegas Elvis Post 70s Elvis or any other kind of Elvis for that matter as the mall has really slowed down. The venue is just not there anymore, to be an upcoming act that wants to build momentum in Branson Missouri.bransonisfun.com
The most celebrated act I think that plays on the 76 strip now are the Hagood’s. They started out as Silver Dollar city, and worked their way up through the ranks to having their own theater at one time and then joining forces with Clay Cooper. What an amazing act these guys are and what an amazing story about how far they’ve come. They are just one example of many families who’ve started out here and made a very successful way in the theater show format these days. But the millennial’s in the generation Xers are looking for something more. They’re looking for something to get that heart beating, in a small momentary way and give them a thrill that maybe the shows can’t deliver. But there is a way out of this mess. We still have tons of theater seats approximately 17,000 I believe left. And quite a few theaters that have either been knocked down or vacant now is a good example is the Tony Orlando theater overall for 165. It’s a great theater but it’s been vacant for quite some time. As a community and a business town we need to begin focusing again on what talent were bringing to town. Like a big named act that draws people into this town and creates a venue for smaller shows to attract that visitor that will that wants to come for the music. Until we do this Branson’s theater’s league and district will be suffering the need for great quality content shows. The first rule should be to continue attracting great stars to this town that could continue to create business and butts in seats for the smaller theaters that are starving right now.
